Novels

So, i was reading a Historical Novel for one of my history classes and it was a great book. It was in normal language, had a non-educational tone. I learned a lot about the topic. I think this is a great tool to help teach history. I want to find more books that are novels for kids to read so that they don't have to read the dry history books that are boring and make them not want to learn.

  1. I agree with you, text books are dry and sometimes cause students to not even want to read them. I probably will not have to deal with text books as much, since I am going to be teaching art. But I do like your idea of having the students read novels about history, so they can get into the novel, but still learn something.

  2. As a History major, I would say that I would be much more inclined to read a historical novel or a history book that told a story rather than the textbook. High students I think get the impression that history is dry and boring. I think it would be a great idea to incorporate more historical novels or even true stories into the classroom to help the students connect more with the past. I think its a great way to get the students more interested in history rather than just always learning facts and concepts.

  3. I think a historical novel is a great idea. I was never really interested in history in high school because I just couldn't get into it. I think if I learned through a narrative novel format, it would be much more appealing and I would probably learn more.
